Fairfax (1-2) at Langley (0-3)
The Rebels are playing their first Liberty District game since 2004.
The Saxons won the last two district meetings in this series.

In its last four seasons in the Liberty, Fairfax was never more than
one win away from Langley and had identical win-loss totals twice.

The Rebels secured their first win of 2009 last week, racking up 522
yards of offense in the process. Still, Fairfax needed a 9-yard
touchdown run by senior Jack Carter
with :45 seconds left to beat Stuart, 28-23. Despite allowing just 141
yards, the Rebels were minus-five in turnover margin, including six
lost fumbles.

They fumbled 11 times in the last two weeks, losing eight.

The Saxons are still searching for their first victory of the season
and have been held scoreless for six consecutive quarters. Last week,
against Madison, the top-scoring defense in the Northern Region,
Langley gained just 84 yards and had three first downs, none in the
second half.

Its best opportunity for a win came against Chantilly in Week 2. The
Saxons forced four first-half interceptions and a fumble, which they
turned into 20 points, and led 20-14 at halftime. The Chargers
attempted just two second-half passes, did not turn the ball over, and
scored 28 unanswered points.

The obvious determinant is Fairfax’ responsibility with the football.
Langley has not scored this season without its defense first producing
a turnover.

The Rebel rushing attack is otherwise difficult to defend. They have a quartet of capable running backs that can do harm.

Defensively, Fairfax needs to keep Langley sophomore Marcus Harvey between the tackles and keep an eye on senior wide receiver Artie McGonigal, who had 13 receptions against Chantilly in Week 2.
